The team of engineers developed an automated sample preparation station for a portable Time of Flight mass spectrometer. The system automates sample collection, which previously required up to half an hour of lab technician time. The process now takes less than three minutes and can be used by first responders to identify biological agents through analysis and identification of complex protein molecules.
